Terminator 2 - Theatrical Cut was scanned in 4K from an German uncut scope 35mm print. This is the shorter original Theatrical 137min cut. The raw print scan looked fantastic, among the best quality prints I've worked on. That said, being a German print, the optical stereo audio was in German language. As it was an option, and courtesy of a friend who'd done a scan of a poorer quality US print previously, I was able to lift the English optical audio and use that here. There was a few short splices/gaps in that track, which were patched with the 2.0 headphone track from the retail Blu-Ray.

As a scope print, the framing on my restoration and the retail Blu-Ray, are fairly close, although there is a bit more on the bottom & right edges of my frame. In terms of grading & levels, my restoration is similar in places, and differs in others. There scenes which are conversely quite a bit brighter/darker. The 35mm print looks quite blue, whereas the retail Blu-Ray's grading has been pushed more towards a neutral correction, along with having much of the film grain greatly reduced.

It's worth mentioning that both the US & German prints' optical strips are stereo, but would have played in cinemas with a 5.1 audio track, which would have been supplied on a separate medium. The optical strips were only there as a backup. I'm aware that there exists a fan re-creation of that 5.1 track using retail sources, but as there's no original 35mm 5.1 source I can use, I thought I'd rather use the original optical stereo track.

The Blu-Ray disc is presented as a pretend US 90's projection, with General Cinema Theatres 90's snipes, and trailers for The Terminator (1981) in 5K, plus Lethal Weapon (1987) & Heat (1995) in 4K.
