³ Deleted Scenes (HD, 23 min) - These scenes sometimes are grateful ³
³ omissions, due to how much they'd slow down the film, or how they focus on ³
³ non-Wikus MNU members. Nigerians and ethnic South Africans are given more ³
³ screen time, even if it is more about the false beliefs from using Prawn ³
³ parts for medicinal purposes. There is some footage with motion capture ³
³ humans in the place of Prawns, including illicit television sales, and ³
³ some scenes that would make the viewer hate Wikus, like his lying to a ³
³ Prawn and aborting its egg. Failed cat food bribes and miscommunications ³
³ concerning eating dogs (both of which should have made the film) are ³
³ shown, also, along with some very short subtractions concerning Wikus on ³
³ the run. A nice assortment of scenes, some great, some bad. ³
³ ³
³ The Alien Agenda: A Filmmaker's Log (HD, 34 min) - A multi-chapter ³
³ (playable as a whole or in pieces) look at the film. From the initial ³
³ works and ideas for 'Halo,' parlayed into 'District 9,' to the ideas and ³
³ themes that made the film, the idea that the leader Prawn had died on the ³
³ ship, the mixture of documentary and cinematic experience and other ³
³ technical filming ideas, effects creation, and the diversity in locations, ³
³ including former nuclear weapons holding areas, replete with bombs! ³
³ There's also a nice look at the creation of the alien language, a ³
³ disturbing masturbation anecdote that involves no self-gratification, and ³
³ a take on the transitions in film stylings. A nice multi-faceted mini- ³
³ documentary. ³
³ ³
³ Metamorphosis: The Transformation of Wikus (HD, 10 min) - A look at the ³
³ practical effects work, from the falling fingertips, to growth of Prawn ³
³ parts, loss of hair, and application of prosthetics. The giant contact ³
³ lens made me shudder (stay away from the eyes!!!), while empathy for ³
³ Copley is easy to attain here (and respect all the more earned). ³
³ ³
³ Innovation: The Acting and Improvisation of 'District 9' (HD, 12 min) - ³
³ The dialogue, both planned, and improvised, is dissected here. Copley's ³
³ work in the film is amazing enough as is, but when you figure he made most ³
³ of it up on the day, and you have a performance for the ages. Dialogue ³
³ isn't the only focus, as interaction with environment is also covered ³
³ within. A must see, for those who didn't "e;get"e; the film, as this may earn ³
³ some respect, and for fans. ³
³ ³
³ Concept and Design: Creating the World of 'District 9' (HD, 13 min) - A ³
³ look at the practical effects (non-CG) in the film, from the illustrations ³
³ on to the weapons, creating spare Prawn parts, Prawn design (including ³
³ some interesting rough ideas), and other prop work and wearing of the set ³
³ to create effects. A fun feature, though not as fast and furious (or ³
³ fantastic) as the next. ³
³ ³
³ Alien Generation: The Visual Effects of 'District 9' (HD, 10 min) - A look ³
³ at the computer generated effects for the film, which are spectacular ³
³ considering the extremely limited budget. From the idea of motion capture ³
³ (which would be a mess due to the camera style), to lighting work, acting ³
³ against imaginary characters, and animating the random odd Prawn body ³
³ parts, this feature covers a plethora of interesting ideas (and truly ³
³ innovative and smart ways to capture them), creating a fantastic little ³
³ featurette. ³
