In the mythical European city of Leisure, a married couple, Jack and Elvira, engage in a bet to see who can seduce the other’s target. Elvira believes she can seduce newlywed Betsy, who is married to marine biologist Eddie. If Elvira fails by midnight, Jack will have the chance to seduce Eddie. Betsy visits Elvira, intrigued by her open lifestyle that includes spouse-swapping and drug use. Elvira's seduction of a telephone repairman named Mike captivates Betsy, who confesses her dissatisfaction in her marriage, particularly after catching Eddie in a private moment. Despite her curiosity, Betsy identifies herself as a "Catholic schoolgirl" at heart. That night, the two couples meet and smoke marijuana, leading to a playful dress-up session. Jack wears a sailor's uniform, Betsy dons a revealing outfit, while Elvira surprises everyone with a nun-inspired costume lacking any undergarments. They encourage Eddie to wear a cowboy outfit, and the couples engage in intimate conversations, revealing their marital discontent and questioning their decisions to marry. As the night unfolds, Betsy expresses concern about developing feelings for Elvira. Meanwhile, Jack recalls an unconventional remark Elvira made about her adventurous spirit before their marriage.
Later, Elvira and Betsy retreat to the upstairs bedroom while Jack and Eddie remain in the den. Both couples introduce their partners to amyl nitrite with a playful exclamation. The night culminates in simultaneous seductions, where both Eddie and Betsy experience sexual encounters that challenge their perceptions of normalcy. The following morning, Jack and Elvira assess the situation as balanced, while Betsy and Eddie are left confused about their experiences. When Mike arrives unexpectedly, Jack invites him to join in their playful lifestyle, leading to a revelation that both Mike and Eddie share a mutual interest in bowling. Betsy suggests they all get together soon for a game of "Bingo."
