Notes:
- The videostream with the DoVi layer was extracted from the UHD source using MakeMKV 1.17.1. The rest was demuxed with eac3to;
- I ended up choosing the two main audio tracks from the UHD. The 5.1 mix and the original stereo mix. I compared the 5.1 surround mix of this UHD release to the 25th Anniversary one with my (admittedly) limited skills in audio. I used foobar and DRM 1.1.1 and didn't see a significant difference between them. If anything, the one I used was infinitesimally better;
- I did use the commentaries from the 20th Century Fox release. They have a tiny bit extra bitrate without being too much for a commentary track. So I went with those, synching them to the UHD source. There was a small compromise there since the Orion logo sequence (after the initial MGM logo) does have sound in the UHD release. It doesn't in the Fox one so those few seconds are muted;
- Used all the subs from Source 2). They were synched and tonemapped to default 60% for UHD. I used this default since the English subs in the UHD source are just too bright and offered no possibility of an effective comparison. The ones from the Fox release already have 80% brightness so I just reduced it by 25%;
- Named chapters also came from Source 2). They were synched to I-frames/scene changes;
- Finally, yes, the video was DNRed to death and it doesn't look as it could/should. I would like to see a lot more grain in there. I don't know if the DoVi will have any positive effect on this since I haven't got any DoVi capable monitor or TV. I do hope it looks a bit better.
