Note : Infamously known as Stephen King's least favorite film adaptation of his work, which, has he seen Maximum Overdrive lately, but anyway, a tale of mutant monster rats in ancient catacombs is always a good time, and when Brad Dourif shows up as an eccentric exterminator, you know it's gonna be fun. There's a fair amount of gnarly practical effects, although the gore is a bit subdued, and you wonder if they just took the Jaws lesson of not showing the creature too far, or if they just didn't have a lot of creature to show.

Hall, a drifter, is hired to work at a textile mill run by tyrannical foreman Warwick, who has a habit of having affairs with female workers. The mill has a rat problem, which exterminator Tucker Cleveland can't seem to fix, and while Hall is bullied at work, he starts a relationship with Jane, his co-worker. The crew is assigned to clean up the basement, but one by one they're picked off by an unseen creature, and as Warwick forces them to go even deeper into the ancient structures beneath the mill, tensions rise, human remains are discovered, and the average life expectancy of textile mill workers in Maine precipitously drops, no doubt upsetting the local branch of OSHA.

Middle of the road remaster here, slightly soft telecined picture (which does help a bit with blending matte paintings with real footage, I suspect), decent enough 5.1 track, no extras. Cinematography is pretty nice in that 80s-90s lots of colored lighting and silhouettes kind of way. It's all fine for this kind of movie.
