Thanks all! :-)
Notes:
- The video stream with the MEL DoVi layer was demuxed from the Wicked-Vision Media UHD with MakeMKV. The rest with eac3to;
- Audio wise the 24-bit 5.1 remix/upmix from Kino was used. It presented slightly better dynamic range than the MGM one but all surround options are pretty similar. The original mono mix chosen was that of the Criterion BD. At matched levels it was better than the dual mono alternatives. I read the review from blah-ray on the sound options for this movie and it's very critical of the 5.1 remix (although considering the original mono from Criterion the best option). I still decided to include the surround mix just because there might be people that would still want to have this option. The original mono is set as default and it's the way I'd listen to this though;
- Still regarding the original mono mix, it had to undergo a few edits cause the MGM logo sequences used by the German UHD and the Criterion BD are different as is the lion's 'roaring sequence'. So, in order for it not to be blatantly OOS, I decided to superimpose silence on the mono track just for those sequences (both at the very start and very end of the movie);
- The German commentary (without English subs) comes from the German Wicked Vision UHD and the 2 other commentaries available are the lossless options from the Kino Lorber UHD. No syncing needed for these since both UHD releases are frame accurate;
- English subtitles are from the AMZ WEB-DL (SRTs) and from the Wicked-Vision Media UHD and Criterion BD (SUPs). Other subs, mainly from the WEB-DL and MGM BD, synced when needed and tonemapped/color adjusted to the lightness(58%)/gray of the UHD ones;
- Named chapters from the Criterion BD were synced to I-frames/scene changes.
Enjoy!
